Liverpool Builders Give The Thumbs Up to SDS Drills

When you really need to get a job done and get it done fast then it is imperative that you have the right tool for the job. Drilling in particular is one of those jobs that you really do need a good bit of power to get through a masonry wall, especially if you are drilling through engineering brick for example. A standard hammer drill could have you there for quite some time which may not only leave you feeling a tad frustrated but may even end up with you using the actual drill as a hammer on the wall. That is why at 4K Construction we swear by SDS Hammer drills.

SDS stands for Slot Drive System. The drilling system was originally designed by Bosch but has now been copied by virtually all makers as a standard for heavy-duty hammer drills. For faster and speedier more power driven drilling, SDS drills are excellent and can go through hardened surfaces far more easily than regular hammer drills, plus the chisel only action is very useful too. SDS drills are specifically for drilling it masonry, are bigger and can drill holes up to 26mm in concrete and 30mm in wood.

SDS drills use special SDS drill bits that are specifically for SDS drills, and will outperform and outlast ordinary drill-bits by a wide margin. The bits are so simple to change, taking literally seconds, which means no fussing about and searching for that chuck key when you just want to get on with the job right away.

SDS drills are available in 240 volts mains, 110 volt( transformer) or even cordless systems that are very useful and also crank quite a bit of power as well.

Cordless SDS drill makes life so much simpler when all you have to do is carry one box onto the job. The cordless drills are made by many manufacturers, Metabo probably being one of the more familiar names but there are many others like Bosch, DeWalt, Hilti,Hitachi, Makita etc.SDS drills are a tremendous asset to the tradesman and the serious DIYer alike, they are convenient, getting more powerful and lasting much longer with new technology coming on all the time.

Cordless SDS Drills are available as a 12v, 18v, 24v and 36v versions and the prices for these drills can vary from £199 to £600. They all normally come in their own unique carry case and most have a spare battery included so you can carry on working with no interruption whilst your next battery charges which only usually take about an hour or so.

Cordless SDS drills are usually heavier than normal drills so it is advised that they should not be used on ladders or for small jobs like light drilling. If you need to drill at height then it is advisable to set up a safe platform to work from

Drilling can be very loud and create loads of dust, so ear defenders and a mask are sometimes essential. Make sure the work areas is clear around you before you start drilling and that you always use the correct drill bit for the job. After drilling in masonry, unless you are going to be using special concrete screws, then you will need to plug the wall with a raw plug to receive the screws you intend using.

Shop around and have a look at the many offers available on SDS drills as there are many to be found. You can even go on to Ebay to get yourself a good bargain as many sellers on there sell to you direct and can cut there prices due to having smaller overheads due to no premises etc.

May be one of the best tool investments you make!
